Wiki for the Indigenous Languages

Main Page

Welcome to the NEW Yoem Noki Language (Yaqui) Wiki!

In this new site, anyone can search for a word in the Yoem Noki dictionary: simply use the "Search" field above. In order to access the language learning materials, tools for grammar, audio files, and to contribute to the site, users must be logged-in.  Simply create an account at the top right-hand of the page. Users will need separate log-on profiles for the individual language wikis.

In the upcoming year, we will be rolling out games, points and badges, and developing more robust social networking possibilities such as chat rooms, internal messaging systems, and peer editing for language learning exercises. Please log-in to keep informed of these exciting changes!

About this Yoeme WIL

This site has incorporated over 7,000 entries of both Yaqui and English words. The data was originally placed into a MediaWiki-based site, parsed from a MS-Word English-to-Yaqui dictionary. The site was moved to a Drupal platform in the Summer of 2015. Any page may be edited by enrolled users by using the edit tab at the top of each page.

The Entry page featuring the hub of multiple languages and the "Join Us" videos are how we imagine the future of the WIL, a website platform that works as an archive of indigenous languages, translators, libraries of texts about indigenous languages, web applications for mobile devices, social networking sites, as well as workbooks of quizzes and skill set builders to be used in the classrooms. All provided for each respective language. The first module, for the Yaqui Language or Yoem Noki, is proof that the wiki approach can work. This is our beginning of a bright future. Our will to the generations that follow. For information about the history of this project, its contributors, and the research team making this possible, please see the link, "About WIL - Wiki for Indigenous Languages," at the bottom of the page.

Navigation Tip: If you want to return to this Main Page, simply click on WIL mountain and sun image at the top left of each screen.

Enter a word and choose "Search" to search for a translation of word in either Yoeme or English. Once you are an enrolled user and logged-in, you can choose "Search" to search the entire site (including workbooks, exercises, instructional manuals, and metatags) for a word.
